Environmental Impact Statement 

The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process has started for the proposed Mākena Mauka project in accordance with Chapter 343, Hawai'i Revised Statutes (HRS) and Title 11, Chapter 200.1, Hawai'i Administrative Rules (HAR).

  • Start of the EIS process
     

  • Purpose: Gather input on issues to be studied in the Draft EIS
     

  • The EIS Preparation Notice (EISPN) was published by the State of Hawai'i Office of Planning and Sustainable Development's Environmental Review Program (ERP) in the June 8, 2024 edition of The Environmental Notice and re-published in the ERP in the June 23, 2024 edition of The Environmental Notice. 
     

  • The EIS Scoping Meetings will be held on July 1, 2024 at 6pm at the Malcolm Center and on July 30, 2024 at 6pm at the Lokelani Intermediate School cafeteria.
     

  • Written comments received during the 60-day public comment period and responses to substantive comments will be included in the draft EIS. Deadline to submit comments is
    August 7, 2024. 

  • Discusses potential impacts and mitigation measures
     

  • Includes all technical studies
     

  • Contains all EISPN comments and responses
     

  • 45-day agency and public comment period
     

  • Once this 45-day public comment period begins, the deadline to provide comments will be noted here.

  • Incorporates all comments
     

  • Decision regarding acceptance by the Maui Planning Commission
